Daily Report

2005 C of C winner and multiple Thistle and J24 Champion, Mike Ingham, put a torrid string of consistency in widely variable conditions with a 3, 1, 3, 1 to pull with in one point of 2008 Sunfish NA Champion, Doug Kaukeinen (with one race to go).    Both sailors, members of the Rochester Canoe Club and Thistle sailors, know each other well, and Ingham seemed to have race 13 in hand as he approached the first downwind gate.  But with boats between him and Kaukeinen with 3 legs to go,  Laser 4.7 sailor, Cameron Hall established an overlap at the starboard gate and forced Ingham to round outside of him.  Kaukeinen was able to hold a lane, while Ingham was forced to tack twice.  The right filled in to allow the Sunfish Champion to move ahead.

Kaukeinen sailed smartly, held his lane on the second run and stayed between the finish and the competition to place second in the last race and average just 2.75 over the 12 races scored.

Other notables were Sonar Champion, Bill Lynn and Sunfish Master, Dick Tillman who were solidly consistent to finish 3rd and 4th respectively.    St. Pete native, Cameron Hall and Interclub Champion John Baxter both won races and made moves in the standings in challenging conditions.

Thanks to Rolex, LaserPerformance, the Dinghy Shop, the Sayville YC and the many committee volunteers that made this championship a memorable one!
