Day 3 Report
|
Thursday, July 10 The typical San Francisco Bay fog rolled in and the big winds followed making for challenging conditions for the first day of racing. After the relatively light winds and flat seas of the clinic days, today's 12-25 knot winds and chop were more than some of the girls could handle. Two girls made trips to Marin General for medical care and returned back to Sausalito Yacht Club before dinner, feeling better. One of the teams expected to be among the top contenders, Stephanie Hudson and Laura McKenna, did not complete any races for the day due to an injury. After three races, the team of Sydney Bolger and Caitlin Beavers from Alamitos Bay Yacht Club and Newport Harbor Yacht Club, respectively, are in first place with just 3 points. Eliza Richartz of Wadawanuck Yacht Club and Morgan Russom of Greater Wildwood Yacht Club have 9 points, in second. Third place is Sally Mace of Newport Harbor Yacht Club and Carly Shevitz of Santa Barbara Yacht Club with 11 points. The competition among the top 6 boats is very tight. Tomorrow's weather forecast is looking a lot like today's conditions. The girls quickly ate dinner at SYC and are off to their host families to rest up for another challenging day on the water.
