Five American
Teams in Top 10 in Hyères, France
The US Sailing Team
members competing in Hyères, France
have stayed strong this week. After
four days of racing in light, tricky
and inconsistent wind, five American
teams are currently in the top ten
overall. The Yngling team of Sally
Barkow, Carrie Howe and Debbie
Capozzi secured second place for the
second day in a row. The Laser
Radial class is as tight as ever:
Paige Railey moved up to second
place and Anna Tunnicliffe is in
sixth place. Laser sailor Brad Funk
holds the fifth spot after six
races. Mikee Anderson-Mitterling and
Dave Hughes are now in tenth place
in the Men's 470.

Inaugural East Coast Yacht Club
Symposium A Success
Earlier this week, 50 yacht club
managers from New Orleans to Maine
were in Newport, RI, to participate
in the first-ever East Coast Yacht
Club Symposium, organized by the New
England Chapter of the Club Managers
Association of America and US
SAILING. The two-day event included
numerous educational sessions,
including an on-the-water
instructional program with a regatta
component, run by Sail Newport. The
importance of this session was
underscored by the fact that a large
majority of the attendees had little
sailing experience.

Support Boat Safety
Coach
boats, safety boats, and spectator
boats are becoming more and more
prevalent at regattas. It’s
essential for those who operate them
to remain alert and aware at all
times. To help ensure the safety of
everyone on the water, operators
need to be mindful of their
surroundings at all times. When
operating a powerboat at a regatta,
move about the course carefully and
always stay alert, cautious, and
courteous. Whether operating a RIB
or hard-sided boat, it’s highly
recommended to acquire proper boat
handling and safe boating training,
such as US SAILING's Safe Powerboat
Handling course.
