US SAILOR of The Week - Chip Johns
Chip Johns is looking forward to having more time to attend his kids’ sports events and, of course, to sail. After 21 years as president of Vanguard Sailboats, a top builder of recreational and performance dinghies and long-time partner of US SAILING, Chip has handed over the helm. Vanguard recently announced it has been acquired by Gavel Securities Limited, bringing the renowned American and European boat builders together under one roof. Chip, a member of US SAILING's Board of Directors who celebrated his 46th birthday earlier this week, expects continued success for the merged companies and for dinghy sailing. While he will continue to consult at Gavel, Chip is already planning his next project.

The two-day event included numerous educational sessions, including an on-the-water instructional program with a regatta component, run by Sail Newport. Support Boat Safety
Coach boats, safety boats, and spectator boats are becoming more and more prevalent at regattas. It’s essential for those who operate them to remain alert and aware at all times. To help ensure the safety of everyone on the water, operators need to be mindful of their surroundings at all times. When operating a powerboat at a regatta, move about the course carefully and always stay alert, cautious, and courteous. Whether operating a RIB or hard-sided boat, it’s highly recommended to acquire proper boat handling and safe boating training, such as US SAILING's Safe Powerboat Handling course.
