The Council agreed to form an ad hoc committee chaired by John Williams to
review the language of the Championship Conditions with an eye toward
establishing the youth champion’s berth as a permanent invitational slot in
the adult Championship. This language will be discussed at the Spring 2005
meeting and any recommended changes will be subject to a vote of the
Council.
To gain greater consistency from area to area, John Williams will be
updating the guidelines and requirements for the Area Reps on how to conduct
Area Qualifiers.
Our two Multihull Championships alone were responsible for reaching out to
360 multihull sailors with the aim of bringing them into the fold as US
SAILING Members.
The Multihull Council created a new award for the US SAILING Multihull
Championship named the William H. Jolley Sportsmanship Trophy.
3. US SAILING Youth Multihull

We have accepted a proposal for the 2005 US SAILING Youth Multihull
Championship to be held in conjunction with the Hobie 16 North American
Championships at Pierport Yacht Club, Ventura,
CA, on July 20, 21 and 22, 2005.
4. Silver Medalists:
Congratulations to our Multihull Representatives, John Lovell and Charlie
Ogletree, for winning the Silver Medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in
Athens, Greece.
5. Fast and Fun: Fast and
Fun is still alive and well at Sail Sand Point in Seattle, Washington. It’s
an outstanding success story about introducing youths into the sport of
sailing. It’s just one of many stories about how the Fast and Fun Program
helped bring youths into the sport. Contact the Multihull Council if you
want to start a program of your own.
