Markus Edegran is a Paris 2024 Olympian and current US Sailing Team athlete. He began his diverse sailing career at age 8 in the Opti and found racing at age 10. After Optis, he built his foundation in traditional sailboats across the 420, FJ, and ILCA classes before sailing 420s and FJs at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. With a hunger for speed and high performance, Edegran went on to sail 49ers, GC32s, Waszps, and M32s and was selected for the 2017 Red Bull Youth America’s Cup Team as a bowman on the AC45.
In 2018, Edegran began his journey in Kitefoil racing and officially committed to the discipline in 2019 with sights set on qualifying for the Paris 2024 Games. In his first year in the new sailing class, Edegran became the top US Kitefoiler finishing 6th at the 2020 Hydrofoil Pro Tour. His Formula Kite highlights include winning domestic titles at the US Open Sailing Series and Kitefoil League. Internationally, Markus placed 15th at the 2021 Formula Kite World Championships in Torregrande, Sardinia, Italy, qualifying him for a spot on the US Sailing Team.
Markus won U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Sailing in January of 2024 and went on to represent Team USA in the brand new kite discipline at the Paris Olympics, finishing 9th at his first Olympic Games.
