Sarah Newberry Moore is a Paris 2024 Olympian and current US Sailing Team athlete. Sarah Newberry grew up with a strong tradition of sailing in her family. However, she didn’t catch the competition bug until she joined her middle school sailing team at age 12. At that point, she was the only girl on her team and was determined to beat all the boys. After putting in long hours filled with hard work, Newberry did what she set out to do and was ready to push her limits even further. Looking for more competition, she was attracted to multihulls for their speed and physically demanding nature. By 2006, Sarah had won the U.S. Youth Multihull Championships, and in just a few more years was the top-ranked female multihull skipper in the United States.

Sarah Newberry has won five National Championships, two North American Championships, and the World Cup Series Miami. She was the first woman driver in U.S. history to win each of the following titles: U.S. Youth Champion, U.S. National Champion for the Alter Cup, the F16 National Champion, the F18 North American Champion, and the F18 National Champion.

When the Nacra 17 was added to the 2016 Olympic slate, it made perfect sense for Sarah to bring her multihull expertise to an Olympic campaign. Unfortunately, despite making it to the top of the fleet multiple times, she missed out on selection to the 2016 Olympic Games. Though she fell short of her goal, Sarah stuck with it, serving as training partner for the 2016 Games team while setting her sights on 2020.

Resetting for the path to Paris 2024, Newberry Moore chased the opportunity to represent Team USA with her sailing partner, David Liebenberg. The pair went on to win selection for Team USA and finished 16th at the Paris Olympics, their debut Games appearance.

When Sarah’s not traveling the world as a pro athlete, she lives in a house on the Miami River designed by her husband, an artist. They share their home with two cats and lots of sails, art, and native plants. Sarah currently co-produces a podcast with WiSP Sports.
