Staton J. Peele Sportsmanship Trophy

Staton J. Peele dedicated many years of his life to the service of the United States Yacht Racing Union and Mallory Cup championship.

He served his home yacht club, the Columbia Sailing Club, and the South Atlantic Yacht Racing Association during those same years in many different capacities. Kind and gentle describe the nature and demeanor of Staton Peele. His high standard of sportsmanship set a shining example for all who know him, now and therefore.

The United States Yacht Racing Union accepted as a deeded gift from the South Atlantic Yacht Racing Association the perpetual, the Staton J. Peele Sportsmanship Trophy to be given out at each Mallory Cup Final Championship Regatta to the skipper or crew, who is selected by the competitors, judges and race committee according to the deed of Gift, as best exhibiting the traits of true sportsmanship.

To maintain the integrity of the trophy, it will remain on display at the National Governing Body of the sport – U.S. Sailing Association
