The US Sailing Safety at Sea Committee will award the Arthur B. Hanson Rescue Medal to six crew for their rescue of nine people separated from their capsized powerboat in Buzzards Bay (Mass.).
Racing will be taking place from May 13 to 19 at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy for the 2019 Volvo 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 European Championships.
Upon completion of racing at the 2019 Finn European Championships, Caleb Paine finished in 12th place overall, earning the U.S. country selection to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 in the Finn class.
Tomorrow, racing at the 2019 470 European Championships will begin on Italy’s Ligurian Riviera. From April 27 to May 4, Hyères, the historic jewel of the French Riviera will once again vibrate with sails on the water and the rhythms of concerts on land for the Semaine Olympique Française (French Olympic Sailing Week). US Sailing is set to launch the Siebel Sailors Program, a landmark community sailing program made possible by a ground-breaking donation from the Thomas and Stacey Siebel Foundation, led by successful tech industry businessman, sailor, and philanthropist, Tom Siebel. The Program’s purpose is to increase opportunity and diversity in the sport of sailing by providing resources and support to youth sailors at public access sailing centers across the country.
US Sailing will work with race organizers to review the U.S. Coast Guard’s Incident Investigative Report and safety recommendations from the 2015 Dauphin Island Sailing Race as part of our ongoing efforts to maintain a safe and competitive sport. We will consider these recommendations in the context of what is already in place, what is possible to implement, and what will have a positive impact on safety.
