Osterville, Mass. (August 4, 2015) – Tuesday’s weather in Cape Cod, and in most of Southern England, featured a line-up of variety from morning ominous thunderstorms to a sun-splashed afternoon on the waters of Nantucket Sound. Sailors racing on the second day of competition at the 2015 Chubb U.S. Junior Sailing Championships experienced a tremendous day of racing in single-, double-, and quadruplehanded fleets.
On Monday, all fleets got an early start to the regatta, as the Byte CII (single) and Club 420 (double) fleets tallied two races each, and the Wianno Seniors (quad) totaled three. On Tuesday the Byte CII and Club 420s finished four races, while the Wianno Seniors finished three races.
Soon after launching Tuesday morning, another incoming storm forced sailors to return ashore for a brief postponement. The shower storm breezed through the area quickly and the boats relaunched at approximately 10:30 am. Most of the morning featured steady 7 to 10 knots, with stronger gusts up to 20 knots, and choppier conditions later in the day.
Leading the charge in the U.S. Junior Singlehanded Championship is Joseph Hou (Newport Beach, Calif.). Hou won the first four races of the championship. He was runner-up in races five and six and leads by six over Sam Morrell (Red Hook, USVI).
