Brian Swingly
Brian Swingly is the Head Sailing Coach at the United States Coast Guard Academy and a private sailing coach. The main sailing related goal that Brian is working towards now is continuing to maintain a high-level program at the Coast Guard Academy. Brian coaches sailors by, “providing accurate feedback that is based on sound information. Sometimes, this requires a minute or two longer to come to conclude. But I strive to deliver precise information with evidence to support it. Sometimes I don’t know the exact answer/solution, which is okay with me. However, I always know who to ask to find it.”
Do you have any advice for sailors attending the U.S. Youth Championship?
“Take full advantage of sailing against the best youth sailors and coaches for the week. There is a lot to learn if you are looking i the right places. The sailors who I know attended this regatta are always first in the boat, last at the debrief and hungrier for information more than anyone else. If you have high goals, learning as much as you can while at an event such as a US Sailing Championship is an opportunity that cannot be overlooked.”
Fun fact about Coach Brian:
