Mike Scott is the Director of Youth Sailing and Head Coach at Encinal Yacht Club. While Mike is a full-time coach, he sails 49ers or races J70s or Melges 24 keelboats. A goal that Mike is currently working towards is to have a better understanding of the psychology surrounding sailing. Mike describes his coaching style as analytical and prefers to discuss with the sailors before a lecture.

 

Do you have any advice for sailor’s attending the Chubb U.S. Junior Championships?

“Take notes (not too many), introduce yourself to your peers (connections are everything in this sport) and prioritize fun.”

Fun Fact about Coach Mike:

“I eat an unusually large amount of carrots.”
