Scott Ikle is the Head Sailing Coach at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. While Scott is involved with collegiate sailing during the school year, he is focusing on high-performance coaching on multiple classes of boats for the summer 2019 season. A sailing related goal that Scott is working towards is collaborating with Hobart and William Smith student-athletes to identify team goals for next year and then developing a team vision for the upcoming collegiate season. On his coaching style, Scott says, “I will challenge you every day to be at your best, knowing that I bring my best every day to practice.”

 

Do you have any advice for sailors attending the U.S. Youth Sailing Championship?

“Sailors should approach working with their event coaches with a beginner’s mindset – be open to new ideas. Don’t let what you think you know prevent you from learning what you need to know.”

Fun fact about Coach Scott:

Scott coached US Sailing’s Youth Sailing Director John Pearce while he was an undergrad at Hobart and William Smith Colleges and then hired him as an assistant coach!
