FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BUFFALO, N.Y. (June 15, 2021) – Oro Sports is a woman-owned, “made in the USA” brand committed to innovating high-impact cooling gear aimed at improving endurance and preventing heat injuries. Co-founder Luanne DiBernardo credits her brother, former DKNY designer Van DiBernardo, for the styling and comfort synonymous with the Oro brand. Mr. DiBernardo has long been challenged by heat intolerance due to a chronic condition, which led to the creation of Oro Sports’ groundbreaking product line.
“Overheating occurs in the brain,” said DiBernardo. “Once overheated, the brain can no longer send signals for muscle movement. This is the basis of muscle fatigue, and the beginning of more serious heat injuries. Our products will help US Sailing Team athletes stay cool both before and after racing in hot climates, and in doing so, help them win races.”
With the team training and racing in Enoshima, Japan, for much for this coming summer, the need for Oro Sports equipment was clear. Temperatures are expected to be the hottest on record. Competitive athletes are particularly vulnerable to heat stroke, especially while engaged in demanding aerobic activity. The Pre-Cooling and Recovery Cooling technologies provided by Oro Sports vests will see extensive use onsite in Japan.
“Once you understand that 75% of your body’s total energy is devoted to regulating body temperature, the benefits to the athlete of precooling and recovery cooling should come as no surprise,” said DiBernardo.
“We are always looking for new ways to keep our athletes healthy, safe and performing at their best,” said Paul Cayard, Executive Director of U.S. Olympic Sailing. “We are grateful to have the support of Oro Sports as we head into a hot summer in Japan and beyond, and to benefit from their innovative products.”
