BRISTOL, RI – February 21, 2025 – US Sailing, the national governing body for the sport of sailing in the United States, today announced a strategic restructuring of its organization to optimize support for its core programs, including Olympic and high-performance sailing, offshore sailing, education, community sailing, competition and youth development.
This restructuring includes the realignment of certain roles and responsibilities, resulting in the elimination of approximately ten positions (some of which are open positions) and a reduction of other operating expenses. The decision to reduce staffing was made after careful consideration and analysis of the organization’s current and future needs. The restructuring will not affect the high quality of the core services US Sailing provides to its members.
“We are committed to ensuring that US Sailing remains a strong and vibrant organization that supports the sailing community at all levels,” said Henry Brauer, President of the Board of US Sailing. “This restructuring will allow us to operate more efficiently and effectively, while continuing to provide exceptional service to our members.”
US Sailing would like to assure its members and the sailing community that member-facing programs and services will not be materially impacted by this restructuring. The organization remains dedicated to supporting:
- Olympic and High Performance Sailing: US Sailing is fully committed to providing the resources and support necessary for our athletes to achieve success on the world stage.
- Youth Development: US Sailing will continue to invest in youth sailing initiatives that inspire and empower the next generation of sailors.
- Offshore Sailing: We will continue to promote and develop offshore sailing through training programs, safety initiatives, and competitive opportunities.
- Education: US Sailing is dedicated to providing comprehensive training programs for sailors of all ages, abilities, backgrounds and skill levels.
- Community Sailing: We are committed to supporting community sailing programs that introduce new sailors to the sport and foster a lifelong love of sailing.
- Competition and Safety: We will continue to lead the world in training race officials, developing safety at sea best practices and training, and continuing to develop rules and best practices for the sport.
“This strategic realignment will better position US Sailing to focus on these key areas and ensure the continued growth and success of sailing in the United States,” said Board President Brauer. “We are excited about the future of sailing and our ability to serve the sailing community.”
This reorganization will allow numerous members of the US Sailing staff to move up into new roles and take on more responsibility. A combined sponsorship and development team will be better able to develop the resources needed to continue to lead the sport. Additionally, US Sailing is continuing to move forward with the search for a new CEO and look forward to making an announcement on that search soon. When a new CEO is in place, she or he will be able to reassess organizational structure in conjunction with the strategic planning process.
US Sailing is confident that this restructuring will strengthen its ability to serve its members and the sailing community for many years to come.
