Memo about ISAF Sailing World Cup Miami Quotas in 2016
Entries in the 2016 ISAF SWC Miami will be according to the NoR
The class quota system is explained in NOR M3.9; summarized below, but the NOR governs:
Online entry to SWC Miami opens on October 30, 2015.
There are entry quotas for each class (see list below).
If entries in a given class have reached or exceeded the quota by the priority date, December 4, 2015, as listed in NOR M3.9, then the countries represented by the then-current are ranked by their top athlete in the ISAF rankings.
With that order established, each country is given one spot. Then, following the same order, a second spot is given to each country that wants one, then a third, then a fourth, etc., until quota is reached. Every nation is guaranteed at least one place in each class if they submit a paid entry prior to the priority deadline.
If entries in a given class have not reached the quota by the priority date, then entries continue on a first-come first-served basis until the quota is reached.
Entry quotas at 2016 SWC Miami are as follows:
Laser – 100
Laser Radial – 80
Finn – 50
470 M – 60
470 W – 40
49er – 80
49erFX – 80
Nacra 17 – 80
RS:X M – 60
RS:X W – 40
4mR – 40
SKUD 18 – 20
Sonar – 20
If entries in a given class exceed the quota by December 4, 2015, then US Sailing will rank US athletes in the following manner to decide which athletes receive the available places:
Olympic classes:
The first two places in each class will be awarded to the two highest finishing athletes or teams at the 2015 class world championships.
If a third place is available in a class, it will be awarded to the highest finishing athletes or teams at the 2016 MLK Weekend Regattas in Coconut Grove (470, 49er, 49er FX, Nacra 17, RS:X) and Lauderdale Yacht Club (Finn, Laser, Laser Radial) January 16-18, 2016.
If a fourth place is available in a class, it will be awarded to the third highest finishing athletes or teams at the 2015 class world championships. If any 2015 class world championship is a non-event according to its Notice of Race, any spots that would have been awarded for finishes there will be awarded according to the ISAF Fleet Racing Rankings as of the date of the scheduled completion of the non-event.
If a ranking tie between two teams occurs, the tie- breaker will be determined by the higher placing team at the most recent event that was used to determine ISAF Ranking and in which both teams competed.
Any further available places will be awarded according to finishing order in the 2016 MLK Weekend Regattas. If either of these events is considered a non-event as defined in the Notice of Race for the regatta, any spots that would otherwise have been awarded according to finishing order there will be awarded according to finishing order at the 2015 class world championships.
Paralympic classes:
History shows it is unlikely quotas will be reached in the Paralympic classes. Regardless, you are encouraged to register early.
